After crafting their wedding bands, this couple returned to order a ring that pairs beautifully with her existing ring.
A Design where the Gemstone is the Star Attraction
The wedding bands we initially crafted were the elegant, curved "Moderato" designs.
The couple wanted a ring that would complement this curvature and be suitable for everyday wear alongside her wedding band.
Initially, they were interested in using Paraiba tourmaline, known for its clear oceanic green-blue beauty.
Paraiba tourmaline, while highly sought after for its rarity, is not ideally suited for everyday wear. It contains many inclusions that make it vulnerable to impacts, and it may also fade under UV light or in hot water.
Prioritizing durability, we opted for a bright ice blue diamond instead.
Bringing the Vision to Life
The design process involved considering how best to showcase the diamond, using sample rings and reference images to shape a rough idea.
For the ring's design, instead of large, prominent diamonds, a style with numerous small stones set in succession might be cute.
We decided to go with a design that has diamonds lined up along the "Moderato."
For the "Moderato" ring design, a large central diamond fitting snugly into the recesses of overlapping arms is used as a reference point. The size of the diamonds then varies toward the left and right.
For the ring mount, a design that covers the edges of the stone has been adopted, enhancing not only the visual appeal with milgrain decoration around it but also improving the durability by enclosing the stone.
Additionally, the overall balance of the form and size of the diamonds was entrusted to ensure an aesthetically pleasing finish.
Fine-Tuning with a Prototype
We will first check the design they have requested with a prototype ring.
The feedback from the customer who actually wore the ring over their existing wedding band was: "Very beautiful. But there might be a part that concerns me..."
The initial prototype featured more prominent milgrain than desired, which was adjusted to ensure the diamonds stood out more prominently.
After reviewing the prototype in detail with the couple, the final production began.
Delivering the Finished Ring
Two and a half months after reviewing the prototype, the final ring was ready.
The couple was invited to the atelier for the unveiling.
It was a design that both of them were very particular about, and fortunately, they both were pleased with the final production as well.
She plans to enjoy wearing it in various styles, both alone and paired with her wedding band.
It's been a pleasure to assist them once again in adding a special touch to her hand, and this ring has become one of my personal favorites.
