“ith Diamonds” is a programme through which two diamonds cut from a single rough are delivered as a pair.
A single diamond rough, mined from the same location, is carefully examined, managed, cut, and polished using specialised inspection methods and processing techniques. The resulting matched pair is then set into the couple’s rings.
The Journey of a Diamond
To better understand the ith Diamonds initiative, it is helpful to first look at how diamonds travel before reaching us.
Diamond rough stones are mined in producing regions such as South Africa and Canada.
Once extracted, rough stones are distributed through authorised sales companies and siteholders who hold the right to receive supply. From there, they are sent to cutting factories, where they undergo inspection, cutting, and polishing to enhance their value as gemstones.
India, long regarded as the centre of global diamond trading, remains the world’s largest hub for diamond processing. Even today, more than 95% of the world’s diamonds are cut in India. From there, they pass through trading markets around the world before eventually being supplied to Japanese wholesalers or Indian business operators, and finally delivered to us.
Two diamonds cut from one rough gemstone
In conventional processes, a single rough stone is cut into as many diamonds as possible to maximise efficiency. The stones are then sorted according to quality and size.
With ith Diamonds, however, efficiency is not prioritised. Instead, the rough is generously cut to intentionally produce a matched pair of diamonds from the same origin.
At every stage, meticulous care is taken to prevent the diamonds from being mixed or mismatched. Unique identification numbers are assigned, cleaning processes are separated, and strict management protocols are maintained. Through this carefully controlled journey, diamonds with a singular and meaningful story are created.
Two diamonds born from the same rough, shining separately in each ring — a truly one-of-a-kind expression suited to a couple’s wedding rings.
Diamond Traceability
The ith Diamonds initiative also carries another important meaning: traceability.
In the world of jewellery, concerns have increasingly been raised regarding synthetic and pre-owned diamonds. In 2019, Tiffany & Co., one of the world’s leading jewellery brands, began disclosing diamond origin information, bringing greater attention to the issue within and beyond the industry.
Synthetic and pre-owned diamonds are not inherently problematic. The issue arises when such stones become mixed without proper documentation, making it impossible to distinguish them. Cases have emerged in which diamonds believed to be natural were later found to be synthetic.
While ith Diamonds focuses on creating a meaningful story, it also represents an initiative in traceability.
To identify each diamond, documentation such as the Kimberley Process certificate of origin is collected, along with photographs of the rough stones and SARINE data — detailed mapping data that serves as a blueprint of how the rough is cut into individual diamonds. These records allow the path of each diamond to be traced from production through processing and distribution.
The final setting of ith Diamonds into customers’ rings is carried out exclusively in our own workshop, eliminating any possibility of mixing or misplacement at the final stage.
For customers who select ith Diamonds, an original ith certificate is issued as proof of this carefully managed process.
Creating Lasting Value
ith began as a small atelier and has continued to grow thanks to the support of customers and partners. With gratitude for those who have entrusted us and those who visit with expectations, we remain committed to developing initiatives that create and deliver even greater value.
It is our hope that ith Diamonds will become one such initiative — one that brings happiness and meaning into the world.
