Attention to detail] Wedding ring with milgrain on forging.

Forging Method Millgrain Processing

In the forging collection, there are rings with milgrain. The term "milgrain" refers to the fine grains of ornamentation arranged in rows, and means eternity or plenty. It is an auspicious technique to wish for long-lasting happiness for the couple and prosperity for the family.

In the ith collection up to now, milgrain was processed using tools called mirtagane and otafu hammer, but in the forging collection, milgrain is put into rings by setting a tool called a rollette on a machine called a lathe.

A rollette is a commercially available jewelry tool that consists of a rotating roller with a rounded indentation at the tip. The rollette used in the forging collection is purchased and the tool is machined by a craftsman for use on a lathe.

Wedding rings in which the milgrain takes center stage

Two of the rings in the forged collection feature milgrain decoration as the star of the design.

The decoration of the milgrain, which is placed one by one by hand, is done with the delicate work of a craftsman, but the milgrain that is placed using a lathe is characterized by straight, unwavering lines, each grain clearly sized and neatly arranged on the surface of the hard, forged metal, which can exhibit a brilliance and strength different from that of hand work. The milgrain is characterized by its brightness and strength, which are different from those of handwork.

Pianissimo

This design features milgrain around the center of a platinum ring and around the circumference of three rings in yellow gold.

Pianissimo is a musical term meaning "as small as possible. The name describes the area of the ring where the milgrain is arranged as closely as possible on the surface of the narrow gold width of the ring.

In the development stage of the design, we initially made a prototype with a thickness of 2.5mm, but the gap between the milgrain and the ring without milgrain was noticeable, and the balance was different from what we had expected. The ideal design was completed.

The lathe-turned milgrain that goes straight in is the reason why the lines are straight and the grains are aligned and beautifully finished. The diamonds are clamped with delicate clasping claws so that the five diamonds are as close together as possible.

Amabile

One design has milgrain and hairline work on both sides, while the other has milgrain and ornamentation on one side.

Amabile, which means "lovely" in musical terms, has a pretty appearance, with rounded ornaments bouncing on the ring. The ornate pattern of circles of different sizes is based on the motif of splashing and rippling waves. After much trial and error in the density and size of the decorations, three rows, two rows, etc., the pattern that best fits the expression "lovely" was created.

To create beautiful milgrain

The key to inserting beautiful milgrain embellishments is preparation. Without an accurate base width and thickness of the ring, the milgrain cannot be completed in a straight and orderly line.

The milgrain is created by using forging and cutting techniques with a focus on precision in manufacturing, and has a different charm from handwork.
