Matching Wedding Rings Designed to Complement an Antique Engagement Ring

[Note: Except for the wedding rings introduced in this article, all other rings mentioned are from different brands.]

Our journey with this couple began last winter when they visited our Shinjuku atelier, drawn to the craftsmanship behind our rings.

Having explored various brands, they already had a clear vision of what they wanted.

Through detailed consultations, we worked together to create wedding rings that truly reflected their style.

Here, I share their story.

The Couple’s Vision

When discussing their ideal rings in detail, they expressed a strong preference for:

・A handcrafted feel without being overly flashy

・Silver tones for the groom’s ring and gold tones for the bride’s

・A shared design element to create a matching look

・A matte finish

・A design that complements the bride’s antique engagement ring

Through multiple try-ons, they were particularly drawn to our "Milgrain" design—a ring with a delicately shimmering milgrain detail along the edges.

"Milgrain" is a delicate decorative technique often seen in antique jewelry, where skilled artisans meticulously apply tiny bead-like details by hand.

They loved the warmth and character this handcrafted touch added, making it the deciding factor in their ring selection.

To further enhance the antique aesthetic, they chose a "Neve" finish for the surface—a unique matte finish exclusive to ith, featuring curved lines.

They particularly liked its unique appearance, which gives a sense of depth.

For the groom’s ring, we adjusted the width to 4.0mm to suit his hand size. Crafted in sophisticated white gold, the ring has a bold and substantial presence.

The bride, after much careful consideration, opted for a 3.0mm width—ensuring it harmonised beautifully with her antique engagement ring. She chose champagne gold that blends seamlessly with her skin tone.

Additionally, we incorporated a "star-shaped engraving" at the centre of her ring.

The deep carving within the matte texture created a striking contrast, making the star motif stand out beautifully.

Perfect Harmony for Stacking

The moment they saw their finished rings, their faces lit up with joy!

Each ring fit them perfectly!

Note: The engagement ring and the ring worn on the middle finger are from other brands.

Despite the bride’s initial concerns about the ring width, it paired effortlessly with her antique engagement ring.

Thanks to the flexibility of custom design, we were able to fine-tune every detail to ensure their wedding rings complemented the engagement ring when worn together.

I feel truly honoured to have been part of their journey in creating these special rings.

It has now been about a year and a half since they received their rings. By now, the rings have likely settled even more comfortably into their hands.

We look forward to the day we meet again—perhaps for maintenance or another special occasion!
